Zaber Teckmo T-LA28 Linear Actuator 0.1 micrometer-28mm This is a Zaber T-LA28 Linear Actuator with a compatible power supply in good condition with our 14-day DOA Guarantee. The T-LA28 is a high-precision instrument, capable of being manually or computer-controlled. This actuator was tested as follows: when this power supply was plugged in to the actuator, the green light came on. The knob was turned anti-clockwise(retract) and then clockwise (extend) and the screw extended the full 28mm (give or take a few micrometers). Turning the knob farther results in faster speed, and the motion stopped when the knob was centered (there is a tactile feedback on-center). We did not test the software command-driven operations. They are stand alone units requiring only a standard 12 V unregulated AC/DC transformer for power. Multiple actuators can be daisy-chained to the RS-232 port of any computer. Linear actuators can also be daisy-chained with any other T-Series products such as linear slides, rotation stages, stepper motor controllers and others. Convenient 6-pin mini din cables on the unit allow for direct interconnection between devices in close proximity. For longer distances, standard cable extension can be used. One 12 V power supply can power up to 3 linear actuators, reducing the cabling necessary for large systems. "To control actuator position, simply transmit on the RS-232 port the unit number of the linear actuator you want to move, a simple move command and the target position desired. After the move, the linear actuator will report its position through the RS-232 link. For a detailed list of available commands see the user's manual. "T-LA linear actuators keep their position even with no power applied. When idle, power to the motor is automatically removed allowing it to stay cool. Overnight power down with no loss of position is also possible. An optional knob at the end of the unit permits smooth manual control. Turn the knob a little and the unit will move at 0.1 um/s. Turn it fully to get a maximum speed of 4 mm/s. During a manual move the linear actuator constantly transmits its position so the controlling computer can track it [also there is a beep for each motion at low speeds]. An industry standard 3/8" micrometer shank with 3/8-32 thread allows the T-LA to fit many popular linear slides (also referred to as translation stages). The plunger of the T-LA linear actuator does not rotate.
